Boca Juniors lose 6-5 on penalties against Corinthians and are eliminated from the Copa Libertadores
For the second consecutive year Boca are out of the Copa Libertadores in the round of 16. The second leg of this tie of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores, Boca Juniors lost 6-5 on penalties after a 0-0 deadlock at the Bombonera, after Darío Benedetto missed what can only be described as a terrible.
The first half belonged to Boca with them taking full control of possession but created few good chances with the exception of a golden opportunity missed by Boca forward Darío Benedetto firing over the bar when free in the box. On 27 minutes, Raul Gustavo went up for a challenge with Pol Fernández in the area and won the ball but caught the Boca player with an arm, after a VAR check a penalty was given to Boca, but this was stuck against the post by Darío Benedetto and the score remained 0-0 at half time. The tone of the game continued, with a Boca Juniors continuing to have plenty of the ball but without the cutting edge to break down the Corinthians defence, Sebastian Battaglia's team was mainly attacking from the left side, where Villa and Fabra, but were not successful in creating major problems Corinthians defenders.
And so it was for all the second 45 minutes, without a single clear chance for Xeneize, so the match ended 0-0 and they went to penalties, where luck was to elude Boca Juniors. Although Rossi managed to save two penalties, Benedetto missed and sent the ball into the stands, then Juan Ramirez missed Boca's last penalty, and gave the victory to the Brazilians.
